There has been a lot of chatter around retirements lately, with multiple superstars and legends leaving their boots in the ring over the past year, including Goldberg, John Cena, AJ Styles, and most recently, Brock Lesnar. One name that is often brought up in conversations about future retirements is arguably the greatest luchador of all time, Rey Mysterio.

The question that naturally follows is who should be the one to end Rey’s historic career. Obvious picks include WWE’s “Ring General” Gunther, or perhaps a torch-passing moment with someone like Penta. But there is one name that continues to rise to the top of that conversation: his son, “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio.

In a recent chat with Dominik Mysterio during WrestleMania 42, thanks to 2K and WWE Games, Dominik revealed the specific circumstances under which he would want to retire his “deadbeat dad” while discussing WWE 2K26’s new match types. When asked if he would want to retire his father in an “I Quit” Match, Dominik added a few extra stipulations:

"I'll only do it if he says I quit, takes of his mask & calls me the greatest mysterio of all time"
- Dominik Mysterio

“Yeah, that would be sick, but the only way that would ever happen is—I need him to say ‘I Quit,’ I need him to take off his mask, and I need him to say that I’m the greatest Mysterio of all time” Dominik explained.

The father-son duo have shared the ring multiple times, spanning from Dominik’s debut as a competitor in 2020, to becoming the first ever father-son WWE Tag Team Champions and now bitter on-screen rivals. They notably clashed on the grandest stage at WrestleMania 39, with their story continuing two years on.

Fans believed we might have seen the end of the 619 at this past Survivor Series: WarGames, which took place in the Mysterios’ hometown, a picture-perfect setting for a passing of the torch. However, Dominik instead had a major moment of his own, regaining the Intercontinental Championship from John Cena and becoming the final PLE opponent of the “Never Seen 17.”

With the “I Quit” Match making its return in WWE 2K26, no need to wait for the final Mysterio showdown to make either Rey or Dominik to utter those famous 2 words.
